Description

This building was built by the Compagnie des Indes, followed by governors Pierre-Benoît Dumas and Mahé de Labourdonnais, at the beginning of the 19th century, in response to the economic development of Saint-Denis and trade. Although it seems to be divided into two parts, it constitutes only one building. Made of covered masonry, it is reinforced by carved stone elements and a wooden frame. The main building rises on two levels above a basement, with a simple depth and a covered passage in the center which leads to a rear court, partially paved with basalt and embellished with vegetation. In addition, it includes two side wings in the north and south, protruding to the courtyard, which were the old outbuildings overlooking the Ruelle Saint-Paul.
