Description

The church was rebuilt between 1956 and 1962. As the main architect in charge of planning and reconstruction of the city of Lisieux, Robert Camelot designed a church with an elongated form, divided into three parts, with a transept that exceeds and an inclined roof. Its architectural approach is innovative, both technically (use of industrial prefabrication, daring vaulting of the large vessel, long pillars) and on the choice of materials (mixture of reinforced concrete and iron) and the formal style (inclined walls on the north side of the nave). The interior design reflects great monumental virtuosity. The large northern glass roof of Max Ingrand, dedicated to the Annunciation, is one of the major works of reconstruction in France. The religious furniture and the decoration of the baptistery designed by Maurice Rocher add to the artistic value of the building.
