Description
The Carmelites, which settled in Angoulême in 1633 on the rue de Turenne, enlarged their convent to the east in 1739. It was during this period that this door would have been built, although its architectural style seems to suggest that it could be older. The door has a semicircular opening, with legs decorated with pilasters resting on a coating of well -cut stones, decorated with bosses. The only decoration of the door is a key decorated with an acanthus sheet. Above, there is an entablature with an open pediment allowing access to a niche, flanked by pilasters, which is itself crowned by another open pediment for the passage of a base bearing a statue. The entablature is also decorated with foliage.
