Ruffec : Saint-André Church

The facade opens with a portal made up of three archivolts with sculpted edges. On each side of this portal, separated by a cylindrical pilaster which reaches the top of the facade, is a semicircular arcade also decorated with sculptures, with a united eardrum forming a niche at the back. In the right niche, the sculpted pattern has disappeared. In the one on the left, we see a richly decorated bed on which a human being rests, with a quadruped human head at the foot of the bed. In the center and above the archivolts of the large portal, there is a large window. On both sides of this window, a gallery is made up of six semicircular niches, carved and molded. Most of these niches have retained their statues representing the twelve apostles. The whole is framed by two other cylindrical pilasters which also rise to the top of the building. In the gable, at the top of the facade, a medallion represents the standing Christ, flanked on each side by two standing angels.
