Description
The Protestant activity in Cozes was very dynamic in the 17th century, until the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. In the 18th century, a temple was built outside the village. In 1817, this building was in very poor condition, which pushed the deacons to decide to build a new one, which is the one we know today. The works, carried out by the architect-entrepreneur Jean Blotau, was completed in 1821. This temple is one of the oldest in the Poitou-Charentes region. It has a rectangular shape and only its facade is adorned: it has a pediment with an oculus, a door surrounded by doric bossing pilasters, as well as a molded and sculpted entablature. The liturgical furniture also belongs to the time of the construction of the temple, including the pulpit, the desk and the communion table, among others.
