Grosseto-Prugna : Capitello Tour

This Genoese tower is one of the oldest on the island. It was managed by the inhabitants and would have been the center of a conflict between the Bastellicais and the Ajacciens, who, according to a legend, argued her possession. Bonaparte would have stood up there for three days against the peasants supporting Pascal Paoli. The round -shaped tower consists of two levels separated by a brick belt. Above this belt, there are two openings, one, square, was the old original door, the lower part of which was filled. Mâchicoulis, supported by brick arcs, dominate the structure, whose terrace, surrounded by a metal railing, is cluttered by installations dating from the Second World War. Inside, a new staircase of six steps provides access to the first floor. Another staircase leads to the terrace. A niche was created in the north wall.
