Description
This castle is one of the most fascinating civil buildings of the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century. It is located at the end of a rocky promontory overlooking the former ford of the Loir. The surroundings have not been changed since the 17th century. Between the castle and the Loir, there are gardens which have kept their original arrangement, with their gloriettes, their alleys of old linden and the quay wall which runs along the Loir. The bridge that crossed the Loir was destroyed by the Germans in August 1944. At the foot of the castle, on the old batteries of a 16th century mill, is a pumping station which uses the strength of waterfall, thus allowing the continuation of the old mill for industrial needs.
