Saint-Bonnet-de-Rochefort : Château de Rochefort

The fortified castle, built in 1150, was revised in the 15th century (with modifications to the towers and the west facade), then restored in 1632 and still modified in the 18th and 19th centuries. The latter restorations, carried out under the direction of the Viscount of Ligondès, included the elevation of the west that to hide roofs and an inspired crenel of the 15th century. The entrance to the castle is by the old farmyard, which is bordered to the north by the outbuildings and in the east by a large wall against which the vestiges of a 15th century chapel rest, as well as a tower at each end. To the west, the courtyard is shrinking to create the courtyard of honor, demarcated to the west and south by buildings which house the reception rooms (lounge, dining room, gallery and large living room). These spaces are decorated with a Louis XIII style chimney, tapestries of Aubusson dating from the 17th century, and paintings from the same period. All the walls and buildings are framed by four towers. To the south, on foundations dating from the 12th century, a terrace overlooks the banks of La Sioule.
