Description
In August 1685, Vauban chose the island of Cézon, which controlled access to the channel of Aber Wrac'h, to build a fort. This site is strategic, because the estuary allows an easy landing for enemy troops and offers a path to Brest, located just about twenty kilometers, thus making it possible to take this city by surprise. In addition, it is a haven for military and commercial ships. The work, which was entrusted to the engineer Robelin, did not begin until 1694 and ended ten years later. Fort Cézon, whose main structure is a well -preserved artillery tower, has been renovated several times in the 18th and 19th centuries. During the Second World War, German troops occupied it and added about fifteen defensive books, thus creating an excellent example of a system of stored fortifications.
