Description
Former castle of the counts of Toulouse, it became the property of the bishops and the provosts of Avignon in the 13th century, then was integrated into the royal domain. Pope Clément V died there in one of his rooms on April 20, 1314. This castle had a chapel built by Saint-Louis, inspired by the Holy Chapelle. A tower, which was part of the structure, was attached to the surrounding wall, of which only a small part remains. Inside, the tower includes a semi-circular room and a small spiral staircase that leads to the upper terrace. The room has an imposing warhead vault, decorated with a rosette key, while the warheads are based on solid lamp ass. Two small loopholes provide light to the room from the ground.
