Description
Mentioned for the first time in 1096, this place was reinforced in the 12th century by the Count of Toulouse. It served as royal châtellenie from the 13th to the 14th century. During the wars of religion, the castle was captured in 1577 and suffered a six -month -long seat in 1590, led by Captain Blondeau. After his capitulation, a garrison of ten soldiers was held on site at the expense of the diocese. To protect against the Rhône floods, a dike was built near the castle in 1626. There remains of the old fortification only the square tower perched on a narrow rock. A few meters to the east, you can see the remains of the Romanesque castral chapel.
