Description
First Protestant cemetery in France, it was established in 1779. It was originally a garden that became a cemetery for non-Catholics. Nearby is a small "mazet" where we keep the pulpit dismantled, serving as sacristy of the desert. In 1821 and again in 1856, he was fitted into a landscaped cemetery, with tombs of neo-classical or neo-Roman style. The arrangement is organized by fence walls and aisles, each with a different arrangement: parallel aisles in the free zone, alleys that meet at right angles in the Bergeron section, and diagonal aisles in the Martin section. The fence walls were gradually erected with successive acquisitions. A bridge connects the two large sections, separated by the Cadeau, built in 1857. The large vestibule common to the two sections is considered too small, and a prayer lounge was planned in 1873. The neo-Roman design proposed by Randon de Grolier was chosen for its realization. The construction of tombs, left to free interpretation, reflects the stylistic evolution of the 19th century.
