Description
The lordship of Bonrepos was bought by Pierre-Paul Riquet in 1651. Between 1654 and 1666, the mason of Revel, Isaac Roux, rebuilt the castle on an old fortified site, composed of a platform surrounded by Douves. The main building, rectangular in shape, is flanked by square towers on the front facade and turrets at the rear. There are only few decorative elements of the 17th century, because the castle was modernized in the 18th and 19th centuries. In the park, Riquet prepared the construction of the Canal du Midi using the natural characteristics of the land, such as sources and the slope, to test the different techniques intended for this project, such as the capture of water.
