Description
The Cité Frugès de Pessac is the first of the three sites symbolizing standardized habitat. In 1924, the industrialist Henri Frugès asked Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret to create two cities for workers: one in Lège, near the Arcachon basin, and the other in Pessac, on the outskirts of Bordeaux. Economic constraints push Le Corbusier to design mainly housing sets, with a few exceptions, without compromising its aesthetic standards. There are four types of houses: in staggered arches, skyscrapers and zigzag, as well as specific individual houses. The works began in 1925 and ended in 1926. The PESSAC project represents an ambitious initiative on the technical, financial, methodological and aesthetic levels.
