Description
At the end of the 12th century, the Domaine and the Château de Châtillon were the property of the Counts of Touraine, who then transferred them to the King of France. In 1204, Philippe Auguste gave the earth to the constable Dreux de Mello. In 1276, the Châtellenie was definitively integrated into the Crown under Philippe III. This tower is the last vestige of the castle which was held in this region at the end of the 12th or early 13th century and was to serve as a dungeon. It is completely isolated, without any trace of walls connecting it to other structures. Its access was protected both by the general enclosure of the castle and by a specific enclosure. The tower has a basement accessible by a hatch, and above, is a floor surmounted by a hemispherical vault.
