Made in 1930, this statue of a shepherd from the Champagne Berrichonne region was offered by the artist, Ernest Nivet, to his hometown of Levroux. This work testifies to the ruralist inspiration of the sculptor and reflects the period of its creation well through its type (a decorative statue intended for a public garden rather than a tribute to a great personality) and its material (a hard stone worked expressively).
