Description
The first mention of a community of regular canons from abundance dates back 1170. The priory was raised to the status of abbey in Saint-Claude in 1244, a transformation confirmed by a bubble of Clément VII in 1388. The current church would date from the third quarter of the 15th century. Its structure is elongated and does not have a transept. The choir, renovated in the 17th century, is accompanied by a bell tower and a sacristy, and ends with an apse with three sides. The main facade on the lake side retains the central portal of the 15th century, surmounted by a bay. The priory included a door in a tower, surrounding walls, a main building and a building for the sacristan. The bell tower was rebuilt and the openings were enlarged in 1729.
