Description
The castle was erected by the Albret in the second half of the 16th century. Henri de Navarre stopped there during his trips through Gascogne. The original structure was modified in the 17th century and enlarged in the 18th century, with the addition of several buildings in the 19th and 20th centuries. The section dating from the 16th and 17th centuries is made up of a rectangular main building, flanked northwest of a round tower and southeast of a rectangular pavilion equipped with a Bretèche protecting the main entrance. Shooting openings strengthen the tower as well as the pavilion, which houses the staircase. Inside the main body, on the ground floor, is a room decorated with wallpapers produced under the Second Empire, evoking the stays of Henri IV at the castle. 18th century buildings have a lounge with paneling. The interior decor dates from the 19th century. The park contains an ornate fountain, with niches with vaults decorated with shells, fluted pilasters surmounted by Corinthian capitals, and a triangular pediment. Many outbuildings, including a large cellar, are on the west side.
