Description
The manor of Quettreville, known as the overcouf according to the corsair which owned it at the beginning of the 19th century, had a main part dating from the last third of the 16th century, which was enlarged and redesigned in the 1740s. It was remarkably located in the center of a courtyard surrounded by various agricultural buildings. The domain includes a pool, a large section of wall all around, and a chapel founded in 1460. This manor illustrates a set of similar buildings (such as the Crasvillerie manor, from Gué Marais to Carnet, Réaux in Cambernon and the Grand Taute in Saint-Sauveur-Lendelin). These buildings are distinguished by their resistance to the influences of the Renaissance, their attachment to discrete decorations of Gothic style, as well as by notable defensive characteristics such as shooting windows, moats and surrounding walls.
