Description
The cathedral has its origins in a monastery dating from the end of the 10th century. In the 12th century, the monks adopted the rule of Saint Augustine and established a regular chapter. The current structure of the cathedral dates from 1120, and the vaults were renovated in the 14th century. In the 16th century, it became a necropolis for the kings of Navarre. The building undergoes destruction during wars of religion, with the demolition of the bell tower and the vaults of the transept. Restoration work began in the 17th century.
