Description

This isolated rural chapel would have been offered in 1178 by Pierre de Domanova to the abbot of Saint-Martin du Canigou. Depending on its architectural style, the building dates from the 12th century or the last years of the 11th century. It presents a single nave with a semicircle sanctuary and does not have side chapels. The gable wall to the west has been enhanced with a probably recent arcaded bell tower. The old door is located in the south. The two semicircular rollers consist of gray and red sandstone keystones, alternating in color to create a polychrome decor, whose contrasts are accentuated by an archivolt banner which varies the shades of the flat keystones with those of the outer roller. The leaves have an ironwork decor with three horizontal crosspieces, each adorned with opposite scrolls rolled up in a spiral. Between these crosspieces, which decrease in length from bottom to top, there are rows of swings in S, all being surmounted by three irons on horseback. Other horseshoes form a guillochis at the base. The semi-circular apse is based on a salient concentric base. On the northern part of the apse, a large hole was opened to accommodate a concrete column supporting a romance marquee carved with palmettes.
