Description

The first Cistercian abbey was established in the Empire in 1124. In 1346, a Gothic church replaced the Romanesque sanctuary. After having suffered destruction during the peasants' war in 1525 and the Thirty Years War, the abbey was restored in 1656. Following a fire in 1699, total reconstruction took place between 1708 and 1750. At the beginning of the 19th century, most of the conventual buildings and the church were demolished, after the sale of the abbaye as the national structures. Grange and the hotel industry, we set up a cast iron workshop and a forge, which operated until 1882.
