Description

The estate probably was originally a meeting place for the hunting of the lords of Beaujeu. Significant work was carried out in the 17th century (creation of a pond, modification of the orientation of the main building) and in the 18th century (layout of the courtyard with the entrance gate, interior renovations). In 1903, Michel and Paul de Montclos reorganized the castle by raising the main building, redefining the layout of the rooms on the ground floor, adding a majestic vestibule and staircase, as well as creating a chartrier. In 1913, the French garden was designed by the Linossier landscaper. The main building adopts a U -shaped shape, and the facade oriented towards the garden is flanked by pavilions in the south and north. The southern pavilion is the oldest section. A vaulted passage crosses the southern facade overlooking the garden, representing the main entrance to the castle. The wings of the castle are delimited by two pavilions which establish the connection to the north with the first service building and to the south with the chapel. The decor of the castle was reshaped at the beginning of the 20th century in the Louis XVI style (painted canvases, woodwork, tapestries, wallpapers). The chapel, completed in 1848, is of neo-Gothic style. The outbuildings are located west of the castle and consist of two groups of buildings forming two courses. The park is devoted to agriculture, viticulture and ornamentation. At the beginning of the 20th century, the landscaped park was transformed into a mixed structure designed by Joseph Linossier.
