Description
The design of the project was carried out by Oscar Niemeyer in 1965. The construction of the building was completed in 1971, while the dome as well as the development of the forecourt and the underground hall were completed between 1979 and 1980. Jean Prouvé designed the curtain wall which completely covers the two facades of the building. The building is supported by five massive concrete pillars, around which is organized the interior space of the Grand Hall, where the dome of the National Council room is located. The whole presents curves, designed to hide neighboring buildings. The terrace, which acts as a belvedere, is equipped with stands, hiding the air conditioning installations.
