Description
This hotel, located on Île Saint-Louis, replaces an old house dating from the beginning of the 17th century. In 1719, it was acquired by Jean-François Guyot de Chenizot, who was the receiver general of finance in Rouen. It was he who installed the hotel balcony as well as the decorations on the facades overlooking the street and the courtyard. After having several owners, the hotel was rented by the State in 1846 to serve as a residence at the Archbishop of Paris, Monsseigneur Affre. When the archbishopric left the scene in 1849, the hotel was transformed into a gendarmerie barracks. In 1863, the owner sold the garden behind the hotel. For a long time, the Chenizot hotel has been divided into private apartments.
