Elbeuf : Synagogue

From 1871, Jewish entrepreneurs from the textile sector settled in Elbeuf. Religious services are held first in a private building, before the current synagogue was built, probably in the same location, in 1909. This building was made by integrating two brick houses separated by a garden, each with a facade on the street, which reflects the urbanization of the area around 1850. Each facade is decorated with a Maureque decor, with a cornice overlooked Law. The house to the west serves as a vestibule for the sanctuary and, upstairs, it houses the Rabbi apartment. The house in the East was completely emptied to form the eastern part of the sanctuary, while the western part occupies the old garden. The sanctuary includes a nave to the west with two side galleries supported by posts, and in the east, a reading platform, bima, which welcomes the holy ark, placed against the eastern wall.
