Description
The Clos-Masure de Cauchois, transformed into a strong point for the infantry between 1942 and 1943, was part of the defense system known as the Atlantic Wall. Its objective was to protect the fortress of Le Havre, in particular the eastern area of the hamlet of Dondeneville. It includes six concrete structures grouped into two categories: infantry casemates dedicated to shooting and observation, located on the embankment is, and underground installations to house the troops, such as the R 622 type refuge, inside the Clos-Masure. The whole illustrates a traditional agricultural architecture of the country of Caux, where the embankments were reused for military purposes. The hamlet of Dondneville and the Hamel farm were taken by the 51st Scottish division on September 11, 1944.
