Description

The Sainte-Barbe clinic was erected by the Société des Mines de Carmaux from 1882, according to the plans of the Valatx architect. It opened its doors in 1891, aimed at welcoming the wounded of the mines. Its architecture, inspired by classic castles, can be perceived as a symbol of the "benevolent generosity" of the Société des Mines towards its employees. From 1921 to 1922, the clinic was enlarged and began to welcome the families of minors. The new extension had a glass structure, which was replaced in 1948 by a floor built back on the roof. A chapel was also added in 1948. Disappected by the Houillères administration in 1983, the clinic was sold to the town in 1988.
