Description
The Girard hotel is an elongated rectangular building, with wings that fold around the courtyard at the front (only the wing is and remains intact). It has two levels above a ground floor. The main door, a section of the front facade, the staircase and the vaulted rooms on the ground floor come from the middle of the 17th century. During the third quarter of the 18th century, the Girard family, which has just bought the property, carried out major renovation work, enlarging the building and almost entirely remaking the decorations. Among the family members, there was an inventor, Philippe de Girard, who created the linen machine. In 1901, the house was given to the municipality, which transformed it into a museum and school. The development work has generally preserved the arrangements and decorations of the hotel, while transforming the gardens into a playground.
