Roiffé : Château de la Roche-Marteau or Roche-Martel or Roche-du-Maine

The first constructions of La Roche-Marteau were built in the 11th century. The eldest son of Aliénor d'Aquitaine, Henri the young, would have lived there. The castle, which mainly presents elements dating from the end of the Middle Ages, has an entrance chatelet located between two towers, with a double door in Pont-Levis protected by numerous guns with cannons. At the top, part of a branch line on consoles is still visible. The surrounding wall is defended by a sluggling placed on a buttress and has two mouths over fire. In the south, there are the remains of two towers. Against the enclosure, the ruins of a chapel are backed by a small vaulted building with warheads, accessible by a small spiral staircase located outside. This building, having an L-shaped shape, is organized on each side of a spiral staircase tower and was enlarged in the 19th century with a neo-Gothic style tower. The south wing presents, on the north facade, a wooden gallery which seems unique among the castles of the region.
