Chouppes : Marçay castle

Chapel and cemetery (graves included): 12th, 14th and 15th centuries; Castle and outbuildings: 17th and 18th centuries. Gradually abandoned during the 20th century, the building became in ruins. The fief already existed in the 11th century. At the beginning of the 16th century, the building was described as surrounded by walls, moats and towers. Although he was modified during the Renaissance, he still kept the characteristics of the old feudal mansions. The structures were between two courses surrounded by moat. They included a ground floor, two floors and a shame, whose skylights alternately had triangular and circular pediments. On the second floor, aligned with the entrance, a window was flanked by two cantilevered turrets with pepper -shaped roofs. The outbuildings included a ground floor and a floor, whose windows with triangular and circular pediments exceeded the base of the roof. There are only only part of the northern pavilion of the west wing of the outbuildings. The chapel is practically intact, while the cemetery has disappeared.
