Description
The location of the castle is quite typical, since it has been built on a rocky spur. This castle is of historical interest because of its seniority and the great families of France who have owned it. The architectural remains that remain are of high quality and illustrate the evolution of a fortress between the 11th and the 17th centuries. In 1892, Alfred Barbier of the Société des Antiquaires de l'Ouest underlined its value, noting that many monuments classified by the State did not compete with that of the Château de Marmande, both in terms of historical and architectural importance. It seems that the castle was neglected in the old lists, possibly because of its situation on the border. Since the 1980s, he has been planned to protect him as a historic monument.
