Description

The castle was built at the beginning of the 16th century by the cardinal of Saint-Malo, who was the superintendent of finances under Charles VIII. Richelieu resulted there until 1611 and returned there in 1617. During the Revolution, a promoter began to demolish it, but it was stopped by an order of Bonaparte. The castle consists of a main building flanked by four towers, one of which was higher, served both as an observation and dungeon post. At the top of this tower, there are consoles that supported the Hourd. At the lower level, there is a chapel decorated with many sculptures which still show traces of gilding. The main building has only one ground floor accessible by two peron. The outer enclosure, which includes walks, esplanades and gardens around the castle, is delimited by crenellated walls, with small stone turrets to the angles that resemble peppers in cantle. The entrance pavilion is adjoining the fountain building. Its first floor was used as a justice of peace since the time of François Ier. Access to the justice room was made by a small spiral staircase to the left of La Fontaine. The fountain, which feeds the moats, has a Renaissance style motif. Inside, 18th century paintings are covered with a brush.
