Foix : Castle

The castle was built in the 10th century. At the end of the 15th century, its catch led to the destruction of its fortifications, its advanced works, its surrounding walls and the filling of its tanks. In 1741, he was rebuilt by the Count of Ségur, who was the governor of the country of Foix. When the castle served as a prison, a building was added to the North Tower. Around 1820, restoration and expansion work of the departmental prison took place. The castle consisted of three towers: the north tower housed the dungeon, the central tower would date from the 10th century, and the southern tower, of circular, would be from the 12th century, with a cantilevement platform at the top. The interior of the castle is organized on four floors, vaulted in a cloister, each enjoying a large window. Between the square towers, a courtyard, formed by a vault, houses a large tank.
