Description
The nursery school, the first in Cayenne at the beginning of the 20th century, was built between 1910 and 1917. Since 1925, it has been appointed in honor of a renowned Guyanese woman who dedicated her life to teaching. Designed in masonry and wood with bricks for the upper floor, this school is distinguished by its gallery on the ground floor and its wavy sheet roof. It constitutes both an original reinterpretation of the traditional Guyanese architecture and an emblematic piece of the Place des Palmistes.
