Description
The cellars, the office and the bottles workshop were completely rebuilt in the 1850s by the architect Eugène Demangeat for the commercial house Martell, created in 1715. The buildings surround a square courtyard where "the shell" is located, an older house whose use has changed a lot. At the end of the 19th century, major works were carried out, including the construction of the distillery in 1890, new cellars and the counter in 1906. The factory then gradually extended with new cellars and a distillery, among others. A bottle, concrete and brick, four floors, was built in 1928, and old buildings were enlarged and completed. The industrial aspect of this establishment is striking; The buildings form a set which, despite the changes of use over time, evokes the past organization of one of the oldest cognac houses.
