Description
This work, which formerly defended the entry of the Rance, includes structures dating from the 13th and 14th centuries. A tower would have been erected at this location from the year 937 by Goyon, Lord of Matignon. In the Middle Ages, a small fortress known as "Château de Roche-Goyon" stood there. Louis XIV acquired this castle in 1689 and had it renovated while preserving previous constructions. The fort is connected to the earth by two ravines that we cross thanks to bridges. The first bridge is protected by a barbican. The second, called the large bridge, leads to the main door. The fortification includes, in addition to the walls and the guardhouse, an enclosure surrounded by old towers. Inside, there is a building that served as a barracks and an oval tower that could date from the 14th century. The construction is in granite.
