Vézénobres : Foucart house

The building is on the site of a tower that has been destroyed. The only old part which was preserved surrounds, on the side of the rue Basse, a small court of irregular shape, including in particular a right facade and two gables exposed. There is a window with carved mullions. The turret with polygonal shape exceeds neighboring buildings and ends with a terrace surrounded by octagonal columns which support a modern flat roof. The courtyard door is flanked by pilasters adorned with round or half-round cabochons, placed on slopes decorated with diamonds. The capitals are sculpted. Above the door, a very high frieze is the main element of the decoration, with a pattern of foliage, large Marguerites, and a central coat of arms. On the right, above the pilaster, an arcature houses an allegorical figure: a naked woman, the left hand on her sex and the right holding a mirror; On the left, a man, with a veil fixed to his waist, holds the veil from his left hand while his right hand rests on a column. These figures could represent the allegories of prudence (woman) and strength (man). The year 1547 is registered on one of the garlands, probably at least relating to the sculpted decor of this door, or even to the entire construction.
