Description
Built at the end of the 18th century at a crossroads of regional communication channels, the former Louvre hotel is one of the few witnesses to classical hotel architecture still present today. Its interior arrangement is representative of this type of architecture: the entrance, located in the east, leads to a vestibule which links to a large Louis XVI style staircase serving the rooms of rooms. Around this staircase are social life spaces: a small living room, a kitchen and a large living room. Access for cars was done by the west side. At the back of the hotel is a courtyard as well as discounts for the stables. Upstairs, most of the original arrangements have been preserved. The main facade is marked by pilasters with referrals which structure eight spans. The architectural and decorative design of the two entrance spans reveals an intention of elegance. The two large wrought iron balconies, finely worked, highlight these two entries. This hotel is recognized as one of the most beautiful examples of the Louis XVI style in Nîmes.
