Toulouse : Water tower and pumping station

Initiated in 1821 with the construction of the brought and evacuation channels, the pumping station was produced by the architect Jean-Antoine Raynaud. The foundation stone of the tank was laid in July 1823. The filtration systems were installed in an alluvium bench made of gravel and sand, below the Dillon course. From 1825, water was distributed in the city by fountains also designed by Raynaud. The network was completed in 1828. The set consists of a tower resting on a circular base on three levels. Inside, the water operated two hydraulic wheels with paddles which activated eight pumps. The pumped water was then sent to the tank located at the top of the tower. A sander built between the tank and the Dillon course supported the pipes transporting the water to the fountains of the city. The water tower has been abandoned around 1860. Since 1974, it has been used as a photography exhibition gallery and documentation center.
