Toulouse : Pierre Hotel, also known as Hotel Jean de Bagis

It is the first architectural work of Nicolas Bachelier, produced for advisor to Parliament Jean de Bagis, following a contract established in 1537. In 1611, this hotel was bought by François de Clary, the first president in the Parliament of Toulouse, and suffered such modifications that it is difficult to assess his original state. In 1855, the new owner finished the sculptures of the facade, many of which were only partially carved. This building represents in Toulouse a unique example of facade entirely built in stone. The different buildings are organized around a courtyard. The bachelor's door is surrounded by caryatids connected by an ionic entabilities, surmounted by a trapezoidal pediment decorated with winged geniuses and badges. This door gives access to a staircase with a right ramp, one of the first examples of this type in Toulouse. On each side of the main building, the two wings of the courtyard are decorated with arcades supported by pilasters, which carry a tablet to accommodate statues. The street side facade is decorated with pilasters, weapons trophies alternating with garlands and fruits. Each marquee presents the eagle with deployed wings, symbol of the Clary. This hotel was the first Renaissance style building built in Toulouse with the intention of renting apartments.
