Bagnères-de-Luchon : Château Lafont

Marshal Duke of Richelieu, as governor for the King of Haute and Basse Guyenne, was to go to Luchon with the intendant of the generality of Auch. To welcome them, the sub -delegate in Montrejeau ordered the construction of a house. Subsequently, Château Lafont received many personalities. This square -shaped building has an old appearance with solid walls. On the floor of the ground floor, the facade has a large door that leads to a vestibule, from where the staircase of honor. Inside, doors, fireplace and woodwork are Louis XV style. The staircase of honor is divided into four levels to the attic. The ramp is in black and red lacquered wood. Thirty-two large panels, all different, are surrounded by 35 small panels on the uniform pattern. The handrail that overlooks these panels ends with an apple decorated with palmettes. This staircase and its ramp are representative of the work of the carpenters of the Comminges region at the end of the 18th century.
