Castanet-Tolosan : Canal du Midi: Castanet or Perrier aqueduct

The aqueduct of Vauban was built by D. Gillade between 1687 and 1689, with traces of partial renovations dating from the 18th century. The entry is distinguished by its atypical plan compared to the other structures of the canal and the quality of its construction, even if modifications have been made to a measure which remains difficult to assess. On the other hand, the exit still seems close to its original appearance, retaining vestiges of mortar in the pozzolan which seem to date from its construction. Unfortunately, both ends have recently done work. In addition, the environment of the work is interesting, especially with the presence downstream of the Castanet double lock. On the right bank is the old house of the lock man dating from the beginning of the 19th century, part of the basement of which shelters a stable, while the other bank is marked by the foundations of an old mill. However, the site was affected by extension work carried out in 1978.
