Description
The castle was built during the time of the Treaty of Amiens in 1279 by the bishop of Lectoure, Géraud de Monlezun, to protect the border from the English territories. It is distinguished by its main body of rectangular shape and two towers which are on the southern facade. The ground floor is completely closed, with the exception of a few narrow loopholes, and served as a storage place. The first floor was probably used as a dormitory for the garrison or the bishop's servants. The second floor was fitted out in bedrooms, lounge and dining room for the army chief or the bishop himself. The only modification made to the original structure is a crossed mullion window added to the 15th century on the north facade.
