Eysines : Lescombes castle

The stately house was enlarged in 1537 with the addition of a main building and large outbuildings. In 1631, it was acquired by the prior of the Monastery of the Feuillants de Bordeaux. The foliage renovated the main building and added a pavilion to it. The cadastre of 1811 indicates that the building and its dependencies formed a quadrilateral circumscribing an interior courtyard. Most of the commons have been widely destroyed. A dovecote was already in use in 1673. It is circular in shape, surmounted by a stone dome with a flight skylight to the east, and it is equipped with two randières at the top, which are protruding stone rings preventing rodents from accessing the summit. The original entrance is in the north, while in the south, a door was created under a metal lintel by reusing elements of an old gathering door and pinnacles, probably from part of the castle which was destroyed. Inside, a deep twelve meter well provided water to a tank located under the dome, an installation dating from the beginning of the 20th century.
