This tower is the only one that remains of the 25 laps of the old fortification of Montpellier. It is a square dungeon, crowned with jaw. We can distinguish two architectural parts. The lower part, made of shellfish stones with equal and worked height seats, date of the construction of the enclosure carried out between the second half of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th century. The upper part, which consists of seats of various heights and has no boss, is linked to the reinforcement works carried out in the second half of the 14th century. The tower takes its name from the pines that pushed at its top, replaced since cypresses.
