Description
The Poitevinière Haut Fourneau was associated with the forge of Riaillé, whose existence has been proven since the 15th century and well documented in the 17th and 18th centuries. This building probably dates from the early 1700s and was regularly maintained by its owner, the Duke of Tourzel, until the end of its exploitation during the third quarter of the 19th century. He operated with charcoal from the forests of Ancenis and Saint-Mars, and he was carrying the iron ore extracted from the Ark forest to his melting point. The stove is cubic in shape, built in shale, measuring about 8 meters high and having a side of about 9 meters; Its tank is circular in shape.
