Description
Chellé, mentioned for the first time in 616 in the will of Saint-Bertrand, bishop of Le Mans, now houses the vestiges of a significant medieval domain: a novel dungeon to which was added, in the middle of the 13th century, a stately residence whose great room retains traces of its painted decor; a gate; a chapel integrated into the house as well as an outdoor chapel; moats; A pond ... It is a major site that could still contain the original motte. It is also important to note the presence of a dense network of Gallic tracks in the region, as well as the discovery of an important set of stone tools near the site. In the courtyard, there is a monolith identified as a Gallic stele.
