Description
An exceptional testimony of the intense rail activity in the Val de Sambre during the first half of the 20th century, is with the Florentine tower of Buire, located in Aisne. Following the First World War, the Northern Railway Company chose to rebuild its railway infrastructure in new areas, far from stations. Company engineers designed rotunda, deposits and Florentine towers, which were then adapted to each location. The Leval tower, built by the architect Umbdenstock in the 1920s, is about fifty meters high and is made up of five floors connected by a metal staircase. This is one of the eleven examples of Florentine tower made according to the models of this architect.
