Wanquetin : Protestant temple

The decision to build a temple in Wanquetin is directly linked to the strong Protestant population who lived in the department at the beginning of the 19th century. In the early 1800s, the community of Wanquetin had nearly three hundred members, which made it the largest in the department. The construction of the Wanquetin oratory began in 1822 and ended in 1828. In 1872, a house was bought to serve as a presbytery. A first restoration took place at the beginning of the 20th century, followed by roofing works in 1983. The oratory presents a simple and modest style, in harmony with the rigor of Protestant faith and its rural environment. First temple built in Pas-de-Calais, it has a relatively small size. The building has a rectangular shape with a roof with two slopes, and consists of two different spaces: a vestibule and a nave dedicated to worship and meditation. The majority of construction elements are made of wood.
